Mutual Funds

Actively and passively managed stocks and bonds in open end and closed end mutual funds. A professionally managed investment fund that pools money from many investors to purchase securities as opposed to direct investing in individual securities. A closed end mutual fund has a fixed number of shares offered by an investment company and listed on an exchange and may be traded at any time of the day when the market is open and its market value may trade at a premium or discount to its net asset value. Open end mutual funds are offered through a fund company that sells shares directly to investors. These funds are valued at their net asset value. There no limit to the number of shares offered. Prices are fixed once a day.
